"Father Knows Best"

For just the 3rd time since the trade, Mike Brown had a complete healthy roster, and against the Nets we saw the real potential of the depth he has - everyone who played, chipped in.

The igniter was Daniel Gibson, but unlike the past, it was not his 3-point stroke this time. Instead it was everything else, his hustle and speed became infectious. Chasing down long rebounds, pushing the ball up the floor and into the paint, pressuring the ball on defense.

Daniel, for the first time in his career is coming off a significant injury, and dealing with it has been a learning experience. While he listens intently to the coaching and training staffs, its a piece of advise from good old Dad that has helped as well.

As you probably know, Byron Gibson was an accomplished college player at Houston and taught Daniel that sweet stroke. The fatherly advise was not technical, but short and sweet. He sent Boobie an e-mail saying he had watched the past couple of games, and reminded Daniel to just just forget about the ankle pain...just go play and have fun. Push right through it and Daniel clearly did, not hesitating at all.

Boobie says his Dad has the "slickest way of knowing the right way, and the right moment" when to make his point. A subtle way perhaps through a little joke of making a point with his son, without sounding like he knows everything. Boobie says he doesn't know how his Dad does it, but he does it. And when he knocked down that little fadeaway off the bounce last night, he knew what Dad had meant.

I asked Boobie if he thought about Pop at that very moment, he flashed that famous smile and said..."yep, I did, and thought, he's right!...like he always is"

I guess it's a 2008 version of the old black and white TV show, "Father Knows Best" with Robert Young. Maybe an episode will pop up on Youtube. This Cleveland version of "Father knows Best" meant for good TV viewing on Wednesday night.
