Drew Gooden will continue to get treatment on his right groin strain, hoping to play tonight. The durable power forward has played in nearly 98 percent of the Cavs games in his 3 and a half year stint in Cleveland. He’s only missed 7 games during that time and as big and strong as he is, Drew’s one area of concern are his groin muscles.
He is susceptible to pulls and strains.
Drew says he has fought the issue his entire playing career and the other night, when powering down a dunk, he strained his right groin. The ironic part about it is, he has diligently done his stretching exercises, as recently as Monday, constantly aware of his history. Remember last season, during warm-ups against Indiana at the Q, he went up for a dunk as he always does in pre game, and strained his left groin. Drew sat out 2 games then played every game after that.
He’s like a pitcher, who has to always be careful of elbow or shoulder issues.
The good thing is, Drew’s strain this time is not as severe as last year’s. No moral of the story here, because you can’t take away a power dunk from a power forward.
Hopefully we see Plenty of Gooden in Houston.
