What a wild, wild, night we just came off - a victory including two guys who had just come to town in Billy Thomas and Kaniel Dickens and they did their parts. All with the four new Cavs watching from suite level...
Damon climbing on the scorer's table and vehemently pointing to Ben Wallace, Wally Szczerbiak, Joe Smith and Delonte West was like something out of a Hollywood movie as The Q rocked...
Practices will be intriguing because of the rush to get the new Cavs acclimated. I'm always interested in jersey numbers and why guys pick them, numerology, NBA style I guess...
Delonte will get #13, his jersey number at St. Joes; Joe Smith has always worn 32, so, Larry Hughes' number goes right back into circulation; Wally gets 10 again, his Miami number, the same worn by his Father, when he played...
And everyone associates Ben with #3 because his #4 from the Tri-C Metro days was Joe Dumars' retired number. The first year he came to Cleveland during his college days he wanted #4, but the jersey with that number was a guard's jersey and was too small, so he couldn't wear it. The next season, the #4 was sewn on to a jersey to fit big Ben. He wore #4 in Orlando, and he comes full circle with #4 in Wine and Gold - this jersey will be plenty big enough for him...
I'll get back to you following practice...
